The Power of Free Content
Spending all the time putting blood, sweat and tears into producing valuable content, and then giving it away for free. Seems counter-intuitive, right?
Well, people across multiple industries have discovered positive results doing just that. In fact, giving away content for free can actually boost sales.
At the Digital, Life, Design conference which took place in Munich earlier this year, world-famous author Paul Coelho (of The Alchemist fame) spoke about the power of giving away content. In his case, this meant uploading translations of his books for free distrubution on the internet, resulting in wild success: after putting up the Russian translation of The Alchemist as a free download, he saw yearly sales of the book in Russia go from about 1,000 to 1 million. Paul was so happy with the results that he has since created his own site dedicated to free translated versions of his books.
